Some Pre-Surgery Thoughts

Can a 43 year old wear overalls? To be honest, I’m not quite sure. I originally bought a pair of Madewell overalls two years ago, debated them for weeks and finally returned them. This summer they were on a really good sale and I decided to try again.

When I look at these photos (which I actually love…the location in downtown Denver is so cool), my eyes immediately go towards my stomach. The stomach that grew with two healthy babies and a large fibroid. The babies are out, but the fibroid is still in there.

My surgery to remove it is scheduled for one month from today. Once it’s out, I hope the stomach issues and heavy periods I’ve experienced will be gone with it. And I’m just as excited to not look 4 months pregnant anymore.

While my stomach will not be flat again without the help of a plastic surgeon, I want to look and feel a little bit more like my (old) self. Some days that makes me feel vain and selfish. Other days I don’t care because I’m tired of looking this way no matter what I try.

I’m anxious about the surgery itself. I’ll be relieved once it’s over and I’m awake again. I won’t be able to lift anything heavier than 5-10 pounds for six weeks so I spend a lot of mental energy trying to figure out how to prepare Lawson and Sybil for the recovery period.

Yes, I’m nervous, but I’m also excited. One month to go!
