Travel: Northern Minnesota

Duluth, vacation, Minnesota, North Shore, Split Rock Lighthouse

Thanks for all of the birthday wishes!I had a great weekend in California sleeping in, relaxing by the pool and watching the sunset at the beach (where I lost my flip flops when posing for a photo and not paying attention to the oncoming waves). I’m still searching for a donut and cinnamon roll, but managed to indulge all of my other unhealthy cravings!

Last month my family and I spent 24 hours in Northern Minnesota for a little vacation. For my brother and I, we were reminded of summer vacations from years ago. It was mostly new to our significant others. We started off our trip with drinks and appetizers at Fitger’s Brewhouse where they serve a handful of micro-brews (and some stellar nachos) while escaping the grey skies.

We followed our happy hour with another round of drinks before heading to Tycoon’s Alehouse and Eatery to celebrate the parent’s wedding anniversary. Everything we had was great, especially the gouda mac & cheese and the roasted chicken. I would highly recommend a visit to Tycoon’s if you’re in the Duluth area!

The following morning we headed out for some sightseeing along the North Shore of Lake Superior. Lake Superior is the largest of the Great Lakes. It is also the largest freshwater lake by surface area in the world. All you can see is water and more water! It’s beautiful in a calming sort of way. We had such a great time skipping rocks, hiking, dipping our toes in the very cold water and just enjoying spending time together. It doesn’t happen that often, which makes it all the better when we do!
