Over the past 5 years, we’ve accumulated a nice collection of holiday/winter themed books. Last year we started picking one from the list below to read each night + How Winston Delivered Christmas beginning on December 1st. How Winston Delivered Christmas is a chapter book meant to be read one chapter a night until Christmas Day. It’s a tradition that we look forward to each year. I hope we continue it for years to come!
Many of the books on this list are currently marked down on Amazon. I’ve linked to Amazon here, but remember to check your local bookstores too!
25 Holiday Books for Kids
Red & Lulu – One of our favorites every year. It’s beautifully written and illustrated.
Dasher – By the same author as Red & Lulu, this book is one of our newer favorites.
Construction Site on Christmas Night
Snow Birds – Our most recent addition. Sybil deemed it long and not her favorite. But the illustrations are gorgeous and it reminds me of my dad (he’s a wildlife photographer and is always teaching us about different birds).
How Winston Delivered Christmas – A 24 1/2 advent chapter book.
Maple & Willow’s Christmas Tree
How to Catch a Snowman – The kids like it, but it’s not one of my favorites.
The Little Snowplow Wishes for Snow
12 Little Elves Visit Colorado
If You Take a Mouse to the Movies
The Crayons’ Christmas – My least favorite book in our collection (and I’m a big fan of the original Crayon books!). It will be replaced before the next holiday season.
The Nutcracker – This is not the exact same copy as we have, but it’s close. I actually prefer this one!
The Snowy Day – A classic that stands the test of time. Watch the movie version on Amazon Prime after you read the book!
The Itsy Bitsy Snowman – A short, rhyming board book.
