Lately I’ve been thinking more about what makes me happy. The past couple of years have been a whirlwind of pregnancy and babies. There’s no day off for a parent, especially when you stay at home with your kids. I ran to the Grove yesterday for an hour and realized it’s the first time I’ve been away from Lawson and Sybil since we arrived in California almost two weeks ago. If I don’t intentionally take time for myself, it doesn’t happen.
When I first started thinking about it, I honestly had a hard time remembering what makes me happy. After brainstorming and asking a few close friends, this is the list I came up with:
- Working out (running, yoga and barre3 are personal favorites)
- A fresh manicure and pedicure
- Reading, especially before bed
- Putting together a cute outfit and curling my hair
- Exploring new places
- Watching Lawson and Sybil discover new things, play together and laugh
- Time alone with Jim
- Creating blog and social media content that makes me proud
There’s nothing particularly incredible about any one of these items. Some (or maybe all) are entirely selfish, but I’m okay with it. In the midst of a busy and stressful period in life, it’s easy to lose sight of what makes you happy. I’m learning that #adulting is busy and that isn’t going to change anytime soon. So if I don’t make time for the things that make me happy, no one else is.
What makes you happy? I’d love to hear!
