After a two hour delay, Lawson, Sybil and I flew to Minnesota last Friday for a bit of a summer vacation. There’s not much worse than getting to the gate to see your flight is delayed when you’re traveling solo with kiddos. I was very grateful they are at an age where they can be occupied with iPads, coloring and more snacks than you ever thought you’d need.
(If you’re following along on Sybil’s potty training journey, she’s had quite a few incidents of peeing in her pants the past week. I went back to my copy of Oh Crap! Potty Training for guidance and came across the notion of a “travel diaper” for flights or long car trips. It’s a regular diaper that you explain is just for traveling. You bet I implemented a travel diaper for our flight!)
Okay, maybe I’m hoping this summer vacation is mostly a vacation for me from the day to day parenting. I love spending my days with Lawson and Sybil, but it’s exhausting. This mama needs a break. So far Grandma, Grandpa and Uncle Zack have been more than happy to play all day.
When we get back from this trip, we’ll have 10 days at home before going camping (our first 2 night trip!). Then we’ll get on a plane to head to the beach for a few days. Lawson and I both miss the beach and are so excited for the sun and sand. We’ll get home to celebrate Sybil’s 3rd birthday and the start of preschool the last week of August. It’s going to be a good end to summer, I can already feel it!
Every summer I buy 1-2 shirts that become a go to for years to come (all are in my recent 10 day packing list). The Madewell Courier shirt falls into that group this year.
(Side note: why do your knees look so strange as you get older? It’s the weirdest thing.)
The past few summers I’ve worn denim shorts with a tee shirt or tank almost every day. This year I’m still rocking denim shorts most days, but pairing them with a slightly dressier top like the Madewell Courier shirt (other favorites are this eyelet flutter sleeve tee and this ruffle sleeve embroidered top). Maybe it’s because Lawson and Sybil are older and their sticky little fingers are less likely to get me dirty. I like it. It brings me closer to my pre-kid days.
