Gosh, it feels like months since the last long holiday weekend! Although Memorial Day is the unofficial start to summer, it’s felt more like fall or winter all week. The sunshine is supposed to return just in time for the weekend though.
I’ve complained about the weather a lot the past two months. The truth is it really does get me down and affect my mood. I have so little energy to attack the day when it’s cold. More than the temperature, I think it’s the lack of sun that’s been bothering me.
There were so many days this winter where I barely walked 2,000 steps and this week was more of the same. If we’re going to stay in Colorado for the long term, I need to figure out how to stay active when the weather is less than my ideal 75 and sunny.
On Wednesday I felt myself getting less and less patient with Lawson and Sybil. My anxiety was creeping up. When it happens, I struggle to handle my emotions and can spin quickly out of control. So yesterday I gathered up the kids and went to our local rec center where I dropped them off at childcare for an hour and ran on the treadmill. I am confident it changed the direction of our day.
The most exciting part of our week is we made a cake and frosting from scratch! Lawson chose the chocolatey chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream frosting from Simple Cake (photos here). It is quite good. We’re all proud of our work! I highly recommend the cookbook. I may have to dedicate an entire post to it because I love it that much.
It wasn’t our best week, but I’m heading into the weekend feeling productive and ready to run. While we don’t have any concrete plans, we’re thinking about a baseball game and hiking at Dinosaur Ridge.
There are lots of good sales for the holiday weekend. J. Crew is offering 40% most full price styles and an extra 50% off sale items. I have and love this ruffle sleeve top in black (also eyeing it in white), this leopard sweater is $32 (final sale, reviews say it runs small) and these seersucker shorts for girls are adorable.
Violet Grey has a tiered sale. If you spend $100, save $10. If you spend $250, it goes up to $50. For beauty products that rarely go on sale, it’s a great deal. They also have free shipping over $50.
M. Gemi has up to 45% off select styles. My favorite Felize loafers are the lowest price I’ve ever seen them (the emerald color is gorgeous).
Madewell has 20% off dresses and sandals. These spot dot sandals are a touch above basic.
HIGH POINT:
I forgot to include it last week, but I finished all my continuing education for my CPA license. This is huge because the last two cycles I’ve been past due and in danger of having my license revoked. Now I’m all caught up through August 2020!
LOW POINT:
It’s a tie between the weather and my tough love approach to Sybil’s pacifier addiction, which led to her crying for 2 hours one morning.
FIND OF THE WEEK:
I mentioned it on Stories and Facebook already, but this striped shirt dress is perfect for summer!
WHAT I’M READING:
I’m over halfway through 1-2-3 Magic. My goal for the long weekend is to get into We Were the Lucky Ones.
I hope you have a wonderful holiday weekend, friends. Let’s all hope summer is here to stay!
