Summer Sandals: Mules

You know how you swear you’ll never wear something again and then you do? Well, I don’t know if it’s the slightly flared jeans that are making a comeback or my bohemian summer style kicking in, but mules have been catching my eye. I ordered this pair of Louise et Cie when they were recently on sale. They arrived yesterday (there’s nothing better than a mid-day delivery!) and I’m excited to start planning a few outfits to wear with them. I’m thinking flared jeans and flowy dresses, which means I might need to do some other shopping!

This may make me weird, but I wondered about the background of the mule shoe. According to history, a mule is simply any shoe without a back. It can be a sneaker, sandal or clog. In ancient times, the mule signified a level of status as a laborer wouldn’t have use for a shoe that their foot could slip out of. There’s our history lesson for the day!

What do you think, would you wear mules?

  1. Hmm, I don’t think this is a trend that I’ll be following. I just don’t love them! Thanks for the history lesson :)
