Weekend Roundup: No. 234

Weekend Reading Plans

Ahh, Friday, I thought you’d never come. This week was a doozy. We had orientation and the first day of preschool for both Lawson and Sybil. There are some weeks I feel like I’m on top of this motherhood gig. And then there are weeks like this one where I thought I was going to lose my mind.

I was reviewing this post before hitting publish and realized how all over the place it is. It’s already past my bedtime so I don’t want to spend the energy reorganizing it. So just be warned, it’s a bit of a rambling mess!

I mentioned it on Instagram, but it’s amazing what a difference a year can make. Last year you had to pry Lawson off of me during orientation. This year he did his morning routine on the first day of school, gave me a hug and a kiss and was off to play with classmates.

As for Sybil’s first day, we expected the worst. She’s been a lunatic since we took her pacifier away. She can’t sleep and is pretty miserable most hours of the day. The night before school she was up until 10pm and only fell asleep in our bed with me. The morning of school she had a 45 minute meltdown because she didn’t get the color plate she wanted for breakfast, I put syrup on her waffles even though that’s what she’s had every other time, and the color of her water bottle wasn’t what she wanted.

As for school drop off, it was a breeze. Her class started on the playground so we went out there. She asked me to play, I set a one minute timer and said goodbye when it went off. Sybil didn’t want a hug or a kiss. She didn’t even say goodbye. She just walked off to play. She’s full of surprises, determination and an independent soul beneath it all.

Lawson and Sybil were both so unemotional about starting school that I didn’t really have a chance to be. It’s been a whirlwind of a week with Sybil’s meltdowns that I haven’t had the mental capacity for anything else. Maybe it was better that way!

On Wednesday I had an ultrasound to check on my fibroid. The good news is the same as the bad news – it’s still about the same size as last year. My surgery is scheduled for October 25th. I am ready for my body to be rid of it.

If I ever needed a holiday weekend, it’s this one. I’m ready for some solo running and a few hours of alone time to mentally recharge. I need a slow, 7 mile run to clear my mind and emotions.

We’ve been making our guests sleep on an air mattress for the last year. With a full calendar of visitors this fall, we’re ready to get them something more comfortable. Any advice on mattress shopping? We’re debating if we go the traditional mattress store route or one of the online, direct to consumer, bed in a box options.

After our travels of the past 6 weeks, our house is in disarray. This weekend will include all the cleaning. I’m so much less anxious when it’s clean and picked up each night.

After not feeling my best the past few months, we’re starting another round of Whole30 in September. This time around I’m relying on options from Zoe’s and Chipotle to supplement our meals at home. If you have any go to Whole30 meals, please send them my way!

There are a ton of LDW sales going on. It’s no secret many of my tops come from J. Crew, but I have yet to try their cashmere sweaters. Some colors are on sale + an additional 40% off. 100% cashmere for less than $50 is a steal. The bright kelly color is my favorite.

HIGH POINT:

It’s a tie between finally getting these organizers for my underwear drawer and the one on one time with Lawson while Sybil was at school on Thursday. I’ve wanted the organizers ever since I saw them on Lemon Stripes and am kicking myself for waiting so long to get them. It’s humorous how happy organizing my underwear made me.

For our first morning together, I let Lawson pick what he wanted to do. We had a lovely walk to the park where we played soccer, “chef” and just hung out and talked. He brings me so much joy. He’s really a great kid and yesterday morning reminded me of it.

LOW POINT:

Oh gosh, there are so many to choose from this week. If I had to choose, I’d pick when Sybil fell out of the jogging stroller and bonked her head. It was entirely my fault because I didn’t make them strap into the stroller on our walk home from the park. Sybil went to get out right as I tried to push it up the curb onto the sidewalk. I watched as she tipped right over onto her head.

FIND OF THE WEEK:

I noticed a lot of the Nordstrom Anniversary sale items are marked down 40% – 50% off already. If there’s something you wanted and missed during the sale, check it out again (like these Mother jeans for me). There’s a good chance it’s on sale and probably marked down more than during the anniversary sale itself. And yes, the fact those items are already on sale for an equal or greater discount is pretty crappy if you ask me.

CURRENTLY READING:

I hit the motherlode at the library with 3 of my holds coming in this week. I’m starting with Evvie Drake Starts Over and then need to quickly read That’s What Frenemies Are For before it’s due back.
