Weekend Roundup: No. 274

Happy last Friday in July! Although it has seemed like time is standing still this year, the turn of the calendar is proof that life does go on.

The past two weeks have been fun. My parents, brother and his girlfriend drove out to Colorado. We split a week between our house and a rental townhouse in Winter Park. We’d been looking forward to seeing them for months. Lawson and Sybil had a blast playing with everyone!

During our time in Winter Park, we went mini-golfing, rode the gondola, tried paddle boarding (we’re hooked), and just had fun hanging out. Jim and I enjoyed a rare day date courtesy of my brother and his girlfriend and I lost the card game golf in pretty spectacular fashion.

There have been quite a few improvements in our house since we bought it a month ago. All the gold hinges and doorknobs have been replaced, we installed recessed lighting in the playroom, switched out the bubble/boob lights downstairs for recessed lighting (Jim is handier than I’ve given him credit for in the past), and had a new pendant light hung in our entry.

Next on our list is picking out paint colors for our guest and master bathrooms and our bedroom, installing a ceiling fan in our bedroom and figuring out a solution to the mess that is our playroom.  Speaking of painting, my friend told me about Samplize, which seems pretty brilliant. They are peel and stick samples made with real paint.

Are you planning to shop the Nordstrom Anniversary sale? I have one item on my wish list – a new everyday bra. You know when you put on a new bra and it feels so different than the ones you’ve been wearing for 2-3 years? I am past due for a lighter neutral color. There are a few other items I’ve seen in the preview – these leopard Hunter rainboots for Sybil, this slip scrunchie set (the best for never getting a crease), and a Patagonia puff jacket for Lawson. I certainly don’t need any of those and likely won’t buy anything other than the bra and two pairs of underwear.

Tomorrow I’m getting my hair cut and colored. It’s been since mid-December and my hair is so long that it no longer holds a curl. I’m tired of wearing it in a ponytail all day, every day.

I’ve been working out once a week with a trainer at our neighborhood park along with 1-2 other women. Running is my workout of choice, but it’s nice to mix it up. I might get in my second training of the week this morning with a bonus session. Woohoo! These are the things I look forward to in life.

HIGH POINT:

The last day my parents were visiting, my dad caught the snake that hadn’t been seen in our backyard in over a month. It’s been three days and the sense of relief is as strong as it was in the moments afterward.

LOW POINT:

It’s always hard to say goodbye to family, especially with travel so uncertain the next however long.

FIND OF THE WEEK:

I ordered new face coverings/masks to have extra in each car. I really like the performance masks from Lele Sadoughi.

CURRENTLY READING:

I read The Royal We while we were in the mountains and loved it. I’m now 25 pages into The Hate U Give.
