Things I’m Most Looking Forward To

This post topic made the blog rounds a couple of weeks ago. Since it’s something I’ve been thinking about, I decided to join in. It’s hard to believe we’re coming up on a full year of living in a global pandemic.

I remember sitting next to parent of Lawson’s classmate at the preschool fundraiser last February 29th. The first cases were being reported in the U.S. and since she’s a doctor, I was asking her a ton of questions. Even that conversation didn’t prepare me for the past year. It quickly became apparent what I thought was going to be a 2-3 week school closure was going to be so much more.

I’m an introvert and a homebody so much of quarantine hasn’t been too much of a struggle for me. That said, there are certainly things I’m looking forward to doing again in the (hopefully near) future.

Seeing and Hugging Friends – I wouldn’t say I was a big hugger, but I cannot wait to see and hug my friends again. Like they should be prepared for the biggest and longest hugs ever.

Traveling – While I definitely miss traveling to new and familiar places, I specifically miss the bustle and energy of being in an airport. The people watching and excitement to be going somewhere. We’re fortunate to live within driving distance (13 hours) of some of our family and really miss the rest of Jim’s family that we haven’t seen in a year or more.

Sitting in a coffee shop – Pre-COVID one of my favorite solo activities was to sit in a coffee shop and write blog posts or do other household admin tasks. There’s something about sitting amongst other people doing their own work or chatting with friends that gives me a sense of community.

Going on dates with Jim – The two times the past year that I’ve treated myself to a facial, I’ve wandered around the area afterwards making a mental list of all the spots to have a glass of wine or snack with Jim. Dressing up just a bit more than normal and spending couple time together is high on my list.

Concerts – I’ve never been a concert every month type of person, but I miss going to the occasional concert. Staying out past my bedtime, having a beer, and the energy of the crowd. Fingers crossed for a new Adele album and concert tour!

Not Worrying as Much – I am a worrier by nature (thanks Mom!) and that trait has been in overdrive the past year. What is “safe” for us? Are the kids too close to friends at the park? Do we need to wear a mask outside? Is that sniffle a cold or COVID? What will be the long-term impact of the pandemic on our kids? The list goes on and on.

Sure there are things I miss and look forward to doing again, but I also recognize how little my life has been directly impacted. We didn’t lose income, it’s our choice to have Lawson attend kindergarten virtually, and our family is healthy. In the midst of everything, I am thankful for so much.
